Football is also murder for Title IX numbers. Nearly what, 60, 70 male athletes with now corresponding female team to compensate (women's crew helps, but from what I remember even if they counted everyone who came to the informational meeting, they would only get ~40 women).

As a swimmer, I have a serious dislike for the combination of Football and the application of Title IX. I've seen too many swimming teams eliminated or losing scholarships (along with wrestling, mens gymnastics, and even baseball or soccer at some schools) because of Title IX numbers to keep a football team around, even though they couldn't get the numbers of female athletes in open sign ups.

It's actually even more than that. If you were to add 70 male athletes, the only way you would have to only add 70 women athletes is if the student population at the school was split 50/50 between men and women. We know that is not the case in any school these days. In some schools you would be looking at adding 90 female athletes for your example.

Title IX requires sports and ships to be equal to the student population. We at Providence are experts at this unfortunately
