Non-Rev Rumors

Postby BillEsq » Thu Apr 04, 2013 4:11 pm

Ok... i know that some out there hate non-revs so look away.

But obviously there are some sports that in a 10 team league will either need to be put into another conference or the BE will have to add associate members. (otherwords i still have a rooting interest in Bellarmine Lacrosse)

Has anyone out their heard about the status of these non-revs? I think the BE needs at least 1 team for lacrosse and that is a big one. What about Field Hockey or any of the others? Anybody? I think just about every school has a non rev that has to either find a home or a new associate playmate...

Richmond would be a good fit for non-revs. I think if you were moving to 12 the best additions if you were looking at filling out non-revs would be Slu Richmond, unless your concern was a 12 team soccer league in which case you would go Slu-Dayton. But i don't want to consider the potential for 10 vs 12 in this thread.

I am curious however on what will happen to the teams if there is a 10 team league. You will need additional members for some sports or find leagues for the non-revs. Does any BE school fan know of rumors for these non revs? Maybe Richmond Lacrosse only for a year?

I keep hearing John Hopkins Lacrosse Rumors which makes sense if they were looking for a conference finally.
"Multiple sources have said the Big Ten, the Big East and the Eastern College Athletic Conference are among those interested in Johns Hopkins.
— Inside Lacrosse"
The Big Ten isn't a good fit for Hopkins except for maybe Northwestern except it doesn't play lacrosse, and Lacrosse isn't as important as in the other two leagues.
ECAC would be serious competition though.
Coach Al Mcguire:
"I like seashells and balloons, ribbons and medals, bare feet and wet grass."
"When I'm losing, they call me nuts. When I'm winning, they call me eccentric."
"Queen of victory, pray for us."

I don't see Hopkins joining us, we really don't have anything to offer them. I do believe we are planning to add associate members, but I would prefer if the current schools added programs.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Also, if anyone's interested here is a list of the current sports each school has. Obviously all have basketball.

SLU-Creighton would be top-drawer in soccer.

Awesome Graph ... Slu has a track and field team with an awesome brand new facility your missing the women's sports so i guess we will have to add those as well. It looks like Lacrosse, Swimming, and Women's Field Hockey are the easiest to add. Obviously you solve that problem with the SLU-Richmond add but by staying at 10 teams it leads all soul searching. I've heard a couple of rumors the Hopkins one and the Bellarmine one in Lacrosse. I have also heard that some non revs from the AAC will be added to the BE non revs... is this true?

Isn't there a nova swimmer on this board? any ideas on what he thinks about the swimming situation?

One thing that might be notable is the other sports offered by the two schools and the impact it would have on the conference offerings.

Assuming that the C7 adds Butler and Xavier but excluding both Dayton and SLU (so only looking at nine schools) these are the sports offered and the number of schools offering the sport:

Basketball (M): 9
Basketball (W): 9
Baseball (M): 6
Softball (W): 7
Cross Country (M): 8
Cross Country (W): 9
Fencing (M): 1
Fencing (W): 1
Field Hockey (W): 3
Golf (M): 8
Golf (W): 5
Ice Hockey (M): 1
Ice Hockey (W): 1
Lacrosse (M): 5
Lacrosse (W): 3
Rowing (M): 1
Rowing (W): 2
Sailing (M): 1
Sailing (W): 1
Soccer (M): 9
Soccer (W): 9
Swimming (M): 5
Swimming (W): 6
Tennis (M): 7
Tennis (W): 9
Track (M): 7
Track (W): 8
Volleyball (W): 9
Water Polo (W): 1

SLU would add a sixth men's swim team, a seventh women's swim team, and an eighth men's track and field team. Dayton would add a ninth men's golf team and a 6th women's golf team. Any other sports they offer (like Dayton's women's rowing team or SLU's field hockey team) wouldn't have an impact on whether the conference will offer the sport. Assuming you need six teams per sport, Dayton's women's golf team would help with Title IX concerns.

This was posted in another thread pre Creighton's run to the number 10 spot. If you combine it with Marquette's fine graph you see the BE needs 1 Men's Lacrosse, 3 womens lacrosse, one men's Swimming, three women's field Hockey and 1 women's golf. I think the other sports are out of reach and will likely be placed in other conferences (most already are). even if the league is bumped to 12 you will need associates in W Field Hockey and women's lacrosse. Likely new teams from inside the conference. Maybe this is a possibility?

You have to fill the women's sports too. The schools do not necessarily have the same sports for women. Richmond has women's field hockey, swimming/diving, soccer, and crew in addition to the sports that are available to both men and women.
