$3M per school on Fox Sports cable

I'm sure this is more than anyone imagined but it sucks for the consumer because we are going to need to add an extra tier on our cable to pay for this right? If we go with a new channel that is just being created it isn't going to be on basic cable like ESPN. So more money for the schools but at the expense of us.

I actually looked into Fox Sports 1 and when it goes on the air, it will actually be from the Speed Channel which Fox currently owns (kinda like how NBC Sports took over Versus). Luckily, the Speed Channel actually has more access currently than NBC Network (and I actually have it) so access shouldn't be a huge problem.

Obviously, ESPN would be ideal but $3M is still $3m!!!

But would it be worth it to schools to take a little less money for added exposure?

I guess it depends on how much less, would you be willing to take 1.5 million? I doubt ESPN is gonna bid that high, they already have a ton of college basketball content while NBC only has the CAA and Fox has some Pac-12.

Being on ESPN is what made the Big East. If we're on some second tier network, I would worry a little bit about how that impact the growth of the league long term.

What do the A-10 and MVC schools get right now? I can't imagine it's very much.

Creighton gets around 300-400K from the MVC. I think the A-10 is about the same as well.

Holy cow that would be a huge jump for those schools. It's impressive at what they've accomplished as non-football schools with not much TV money to pay the bills.

I'd prefer ESPN but without Cuse and UConn it will be interesting to see. I always felt that the Syracuse alums got their jollies by having the Orange on ESPN and there's a loyalty between ESPN and UConn because they are in Bristol. Maybe ESPN won't want the new league?
