Excuses excuses. Dayton has really done nothing to even be in this spot. The biggest thing they are known for is hosting the 1st four. And uc is a bigger rival. I believe it is time for Dayton to stop trying to ride Xavier's coat tails.

Really ??? You guys are in - and this is the attitude you show - Glad you could be so gracious in victory.

I realize you are not representative of All X fans. Thankfully. Please go find another board one with your own kind.

Lol last I checked this is a big east board, which Xavier is a part of. Honestly what has Dayton done to get in?

I think VCU would be a good fit, however they are not a like minded university

Like X this year nothing - both have their season over. In the past 5 years we were in either the NCAA or NIT. We bring in a good Average RPI over that period - and we bring in more top 25 sports out side of Basketball than X. And we bring in a bigger fan base that travels better than X's.

Oh and last time I checked this was not a big east board - it was a board of prospective teams looking to join the Catholic 7. So let me get this straight - You as an X fan - which is not officially invited to the new Big East - is already saying which teams fans should and should and should not be here. Wow - Great Christian attitude - you do your university proud.

It is a Big East board, the big banner at the top even says the focus is the 7 basketball schools. That just, obviously, attracts fans of potential members.

You aren't being very realistic. Dayton is not on the same level of success as Butler, Creighton or Xavier right now or over the last 25 years. Talking about how much better Dayton is that any school that is currently in the Big East is stupid and pointless and mostly just makes people think all Dayton fans are as dumb as you sound. I understand there are positives about Dayton but I am realistic in that leagues are not banging down doors for us to join. Maybe if Brian Gregory had a little more luck or if the team this year was able to win a majority of the games that came down to the last basket instead of lose them then Dayton may be looked upon more favorably. There is no reason Dayton can't make improvements in it's program and has the resources and backing that not all schools have but to contend that Dayton is deserving based on on-court play at this time is ludicrous.

Personally I hope the league expands to 12 and Dayton is a part of that 12 as I think in the long run it will be good for both parties. But at this time I have the feeling the league stays at 10 even though it will limit their upside in terms of NCAA teams. We'll have to wait and see, but now isn't the time to try and tear down current Big East members just because you aren't in.

how many NCAA wins does Dayton have in the last 25 years? 1 I think? Also why would anyone from X want to be associated with a school who yells profanity at the coaches wife, who is also an alum of Dayton? And I still can't believe X helped dayton after what dayton did to them.

Anyway back on topic, though the dayton people make every topic about them. I think VCU would bea good fit, but it seems like Richmond is the better fit. Persoanlly I like 10 teams, but STL and Richmond seem to add a lot. Bottom line I am excited and have been thinking this would happen for years!

So far two posters have indicated that Villanova should be in the top tier, so I will concede that.

Also, Yorost has made the best point so far. What if VCU were to flounder, will they recover who go back into being a nobody? Personally, I think a lot of it has to do with Shaka. If they can keep Shaka and make him a lifer I think they will be fine. Good coaches are hard to come by, its why they make millions. Even if they were to lose Shaka, their performance is only slightly less predictable than would be either Dayton or Richmond after losing their coach.

So far, I still have yet to hear a compelling reason that they should not be the 12th team. Lets keep it civil and stop the bickering Xavier and Dayton fans, this is a thread about VCU.

VCU seems trending well. Chapel, Grant and now Smart. They seem to get getting to a point where their program could be bigger than the coach. Much like what Xavier did and now Butler is doing.

The compelling reason is that VCU is not a private, academically selective school. For better or worse, the Catholic 7 want this to be an exclusive league. They seem to be taking a page from the Big Ten here...they are large schools with excellent academics and research, argueably why they took Rutgers despite its lack of football and basketball success over schools such as Missouri.

Basketball is the driver here, but it is far from the only factor.
