The C7 presidents are scheduled to meet sometime after the new year to discuss "extraction". What happens after that? Do they make announcements about other schools joining or does that wait? Do they indicate that they are going to negotiate a TV deal? Or could it be silent for a while?

If the presidents decide to wait until 2014 to begin play there could be quite a long wait before any school additions are made.

Let's hope not, best case scenario is that the Big East continues to fall apart ie, Boise and SDSU jump back to MWC, they sell the Big East name to the C7 and given the fact that there is no basketball TV contract deal for next year, the C7 announce 5 new teams to make a 12 team conference and a new TV contract starting next year. Doubt that will happen but one can dream...

Logically, it would appear that the founding 7 schools should determine their concensus on what their preference is on the nature and size of the proposed league.
Then, it follows that there would be a discrete preliminary investigation of if and when this might be doable, such as ascertaining which other desired programs would agree to join the described new league.
Once it is determined what is desired and doable, then it would make sense to investigate product markets, as the size and areas of the markets covered would be more known. Networks would want a clear picture of what they were buying.
Then, it would be left to implement the league agreed upon and firm up the necessary commitments.

Would imagine this type of approach is quietly moving along. Can't understand how avoidable delays could be beneficial in such an enterprise as this. The way the NCAA culture is, it may be the fact that even with the league's members' outstanding history, the league will have to establish respect on the courts.

I assume you are referring to this from ESPN? I applaud the group for maintaining as much quiet as they have in this time of leaks and rumors.

A source with direct knowledge said there is a tentative in-person meeting of the seven presidents of the departing Catholic Big East schools set for Friday. Discussing exit fees and when to form the new conference are high on the agenda, as well as designating a point person.

A source with direct knowledge said there is a tentative in-person meeting of the seven presidents of the departing Catholic Big East schools set for Friday. Discussing exit fees and when to form the new conference are high on the agenda, as well as designating a point person.

With Boise State now staying in the Mountain West, that's another $10M exit fee that the Big East is going to have to figure out what to do with. The schools still in the old league are going to have a huge windfall from all these fees.

Big East without Boise has no football schools worth a damn and also the small matter of no TV contract. If none of these other schools come the Big East only has 6 football schools for next year. At that point the league goes out of business. Our group of 7 better be prepared to ramp things up in a hurry, our league may be starting next season.

I would like to believe that these Presidents have all of this figured out and just need to work out the details. Hope I am correct in trusting them and I would LOVE to see this league start next year!

Well you are obviously an optimist.

They are going to have to wing the creation of a new BE. Since there was no previous incarnation of the BE,
they will have to modify a version of the existing charter and bylaws...unless the C7 wins the name game. If they retain the conference name
and rights, they will merely write an amendment to add the new schools to the current charter, also deleting the FBSers.

Main worry is amending schedules to be able to start Baseball/Softball this Spring and to accomodate Soccer next Fall.
Murdoch's TV deal is lynchpinned around Hoops, so it is guesswork to see what may happen this spring with baseball/softball or early fall with Soccer.

Who are candidates for a commissioner?
Since STJ and Gtwn are vying for position as powerbrokers, it would be wise to have league offices elsewhere than NYC or DC.
If the Name and rights are retained, doesn't the current league offices and commissioner then belong to the C7? If so, there is no problem.
If not, a neutral site such as Pittsburg, Philly, Connecticut may work.

Lots to do, so little time. The C7 Presidents, along with their AD's and staffs need to get hot, like yesterday.
Murdoch and Fox will want to start pumping program content early next fall.
