That is why I think that it is a lock that either Richmond or VCU gets in. Personally, I think the private school gets in, as VCU is just too different an institution from the 7 + all the other candidates. I just cannot see the 5 eastern schools accepting the conference becoming a majority Midwestern league.

I think your right Boston, i prefer Creighton and Dayton but unfortunately i think you are right i think either richmond or VCU is in and i think Richmond might be in the driver seat. That leaves Creighton and Dayton in the west. Any chance Richmond restarts their soccer program, i know they just ended it but can't be too hard to restart after less than a year out? i might have to switch to cheering for VCU they have been good kicking a round ball recently .

While I think Creighton fits really well, if I were a betting man I wouldn't put my money on us getting an invite.

Very interesting reading from some knowledgable Xavier posters, starting at post #99. Looks like it is still precarious as to whether my Spiders gets the invite, but Georgetown is really pushing for UR..

They seem to agree with what the jerseyguy is saying, #10 will come down to Creighton (favored by Marquette) or Richmond (favored by Georgetown). Funny thing, not that it matters, but if you go to the Hoya message boards, almost 100% want Marquette to win the argument.

I don't think 10 will come down to anybody... There are twelve teams getting in and I wouldn't believe what Jersey Guy if he said the sky was blue. Jersey Guy lives off rumors and bases nothing in fact at this point he has said so many scenarios now that one is bound to come true...

That said a reason that GT might be wanting Richmond is coaching.. JT3 is a Princeton boy as is Chris Mooney maybe some connection there.

Skip jerseyguy, then, there have been plenty of rumors of starting at 10, including these newest ones. If they still only have 2 teams in stone that does make the 10th spot an important debate for them. There's no guarantee teams in the debate for the 10th spot would make the final 12.

I like 10 for the reasons I stated about round robin play, but think 12 is going to be the number.

If they are being debated for 10, I find it hard to believe that they won't be included at 12.

If they can't decide between 5 teams for 3 spots at 12, they still have to pick one of those 5 to get to 10. Being in the debate for 10 is no guarantee for making 12, this is just something they have to do. If they had 10, 11, or 12 teams already set in stone wouldn't you think they just take them, now? Yes, it looks good to be in the debate for 10, but if you aren't taken now you're still not in. Marquette could champion Creighton now and lose, then champion them for 12 and lose again.

As a midwestern guy i'd take Creighton in a heartbeat. Creighton has two problems- one it plays in a true mid-major conference (personally i think that is crap but perception is perception) two its in Omaha. A east coast centric C7 might decide that Creighton is to far and take Dayton and Richmond/VCU.

Personally i think the best conference would be to add B,C,D,S and X, but that leaves you with just 5 east coast teams. Plus Richmond makes sense for so many non-rev sport needs. That leaves you to C, D and S fighting for two spots. S is in a tier 1 city with a strong fox presence and is near a lock. That leaves C v. D two tier two cities with great facilities and rabid fan bases. One the NCAA thinks so highly of they schedule the Baseball world series there, the other gets the first four. A lot of similarities between the two... Both have problems of location D is closer to the east but arguably shares the same market as X, C has its own market but is far further away then any other team. Lets face it if C or D were located in Detroit, Pittsburgh, or Baltimore we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

There you go in a nutshell C is far from a lock in a 12 and most likely is not in a 10 (which won't happen i really do not understand the fascination with 10 teams the fringe east coast bloggers have, its a terrible number just reeks of FCS midmajor).

10 in forming a conference doesn't reek of anything, especially if it's clear they're moving to 12 within a few years. It's just a temporary alignment.
