Well I would like to chime in on this topic. Dayton is definitely a rival to X because of decades of games up and down I-75.... But, I'm starting to question a rivalry when your rival hasn't won in Cincy since the jimmy carter presidency. Basically it's been one sided the last say twenty years. Saying that though, I believe Dayton is a good program with potential to be great with the fanbase and sell outs and such and play in a very nice arena. I also believe Archie miller is the answer. This year UD just has no inside game. Now UC will always be a big rival with us considering we are just a few mikes apart. Not to mention the..... I won't go there you guys should already know. As far as the new conference I have to say Butler hands down. Actually I would say they already have a heated rivalry. With the clock malfunction that cost us a game at Hinkle. I believe that's the game Tu holloway kicked a water fountain off the wall and I believe Butler sent X the bill for it. Lol. But really the last few years X and Butler games have all been really good games. I've always looked at Butler in a good way, reminds me alot of Xavier. Call me silly but I actually see X and Butler being at or near the top of the conference also with Villanova, Georgetown and Marquette. But who really knows. But for my money it's Butler all the way, I believe Butler and Xavier will bring so much to the table in the new conference. Like I said earlier, hard to have a great rivalry that the nation will pay attention to if you don't win big. Oh, one more thing, noon tomorrow it's X at Dayton on espn2. Good game and great atmosphere, the C7 should watch and see how heated it gets at UD..... Go X!!!!!!!

For X I would have to say Dayton and Cincy. But Butler will be another big rivalry of ours.already has been the last few years. It all started when when we plucked there coach Thad Matta from them. Then there was the clock malfunction game at the end where X got the short end of the stick and lost by one or two. It was so bad that sophomore Tu holloway kicked a water fountain off the wall after the game. Butler ended up sending Xavier a bill for it later also. Lol. I have nothing but respect for Butler. I feel they are underrated by most the big conferences just like X has been. I feel that both Xavier and butler has squashed that assumption a bit, but still feel somewhat slighted by the bcs conferences even though we have better tournament success than most the big boys the last ten years or so. Personally I see X and butler finishing at or near the top of the conference most years. But this is what X and what butler wanted for years. Yes they have huge tournament success lately with Butlers two straight title games and Xavier's 4 out of the last 5 sweet sixteens. The only other schools to do that the last 5 years are Duke,Kansas, and Michigan state. Pretty nice company. Still I think X needs to prove itself.
Go X!!!!!

For Nova, unquestionably G'town. They met in one of the classic NC games after all. 2. SJU 3. Marq / Prov / SHU tie. Looking forward to building a Xavier rivalry. Always saw similarities in each program. Think that could be a good matchup for yrs.

On top of that we're losing two next step down rivalries in Cincy and Notre Dame. DePaul is a traditional rival we get to keep, but it never even felt like one to me in the C-USA days, much less now. At the moment, the only strong rivalry we really know we can look forward to every year is Wisconsin. I have no idea what will come in the new conference, hopefully something takes off. For now I just hope we get Louisville and one more as regulars on the OOC slate. At least Brey has spoken about keeping Marquette on the schedule.

I have to respectfully disagree. ND is Marquette's biggest rival in this group, they have played each other 116 times and the Digger Phelps /Al McGuire games were always entertaining. A lot of families have members at each university and Chicago is saturated with MU and ND alumni. Louisville has turned into a nice little rivalry but I think it is still second to ND.

However, this is all about to become a moot point. If DePaul could ever get their stuff together that would naturally be MU's biggest rival. But any Midwest school that is competitive will ultimately become a rival, that is assuming MU can continue to play at the high level it has for the last several years. My gut tells me that if Crieghton joins it will elevate the national recognition of that program significantly and ultimately keep them playing at a high level year in and year out. I could see that becoming a big game that each school circles on its calendar each season.

I was at Marquette during the final years of CUSA, so I hope you can appreciate my perspective on Louisville vs Notre Dame. Notre Dame was a nothing at that time, we didn't even play them once while I was there (we didn't, did we? ) . Either way, we're losing them both until otherwise notified.

The "Main" Rivalries imo.

Marquette - DePaul (come one DePaul, make this more fun!)
St. John's - Seton Hall (Makes the most sense)
Georgetown -Villanova
St. Louis - Creighton
Xavier - Dayton (if UD gets in, Butler if VCU/Richmond/someone else)
Butler - Providence (they both wear black?)

You guys are trying to hard this is a league that will be full of private ed students from major cities with long standing rivalries. See as follows.
East

Nova v. GT Philly v. DC
St. Johns v. Seton Hall - NY v NJ
Providence v. St. Johns - NE v. NY
Nova v. St. Johns Philly v. NY
Richmond/VCU would be the hard one as the only true rivalry would be DC v. Virginia but hell they fought a war in the 1800's it might work.

(plus all the good History that was the Big East)
Moving on BE 5 v. 6 west teams BE 5 angry cause they are upstarts not from east coast- midwest teams upset for the ole east coast bias (that seems to work for rivalries in the MLB and NFL which you might want to see a connection to these cities if you havn't already.)

West
Marquette v. Depaul - Milwaukee v. Chicago easy enough
SLU v. Depaul - St. Louis v. Chicago easy enough and STLs fan base is pissed about being stuck in the A-10 while depaul got in the Big E
X v. Dayton obvious rivals plus x fans still are bitter about not getting in the old midwest conference.
Add in Dayton v. SLU, Marquette and Depaul for not bringing them into the old Conf USA
SLU v. Marquette good rivalry before Milwaukee v. St. Louis and Marquette left them for the Big East with Depaul
Add in everyone against Dayton fans.. cause well their annoying and wear sweater vests... add dayton against all the others because they think they are unfairly judged because they are not in a top tier city.

Butler is tough- none of these schools have any real rivalry with Butler other than the fact that their from Indiana and while we like hoosiers and its an honor to play at the Hinkle but Indiana is regarded as the armpit of the midwest for a reason.

I don't think Creighton is in but if they are feel free to say versus st. louis trust me they hate the fact that STL looks down on their lil valley conference and all there accomplishments there.

Cross regions
any west vs. Georgetwon for the stereotype of being above everyone else
any west v St. Johns... .i mean who doesn't cheer against NY
any west v Nova... i'm sure at least one nova fan booed santa( i mean its philly)

any east v. Marquette (just who are these guys thinking they can play with us at our sport)
any east v. any ranked west team (again just who are these guys thinking they can play with us at our sport)
any east v. dayton.. (just wait till the seatervests fill your arenas they are like cockroaches)

The fact is we don't have to try for rivalries it is in most of these fan bases blood to root against our rust belt cities year round in all sports. These colleges are peers, recruit the same kinds of students, and well when we go back to the office/computer the alumni we wanna talk smack too. I mean lets face it this league is going to be fun.... real fun... and i look forward to friendly smack talking all of you guys.

First off, Creighton would definitely be in before SLU; if Creighton is not in, then SLU isn't in. In addition, St. Louis would not be a big rival for Creighton, there biggest rival would easily be Marquette. They are connected in multiple ways.
