Bolt where?

If Gtown & SJU badly want Gonzaga and Gonzaga wants to join, I would assume they have a good shot, but saying GU & St. John's would bolt is stupid. Where would they go? To join a league weaker than the C7?

If you don't make the C7 as strong as we want, we are going to go play in the A10? How does that help anything?

Yes it's a stupid Hoax. Georgetown and St. Johns spearheaded this whole thing getting away from football schools, why the F would they go back begging the ACC to let them into their football conference?

Right now the main debates IN MY OPINION are about analyzing the value of the Big East name, i.e., is it worth getting into an ever-more-expensive bidding war with Aresco to buy a geographically limiting name that used to be all East vs. a new name that makes more sense currently (Milwaukee and Chicago, are NOT, I repeat NOT in the East) and for adding Butler, Dayton, Xavier (Sorry folks, but Ohio and Indiana ARE NOT in the East either) as well as St. Louis, Creighton and Gonzaga. Big East name was great and still is for the Catholic 5... not the other two and NONE of the potential invitees.

Also is it true that the Zags really want in, inspite of the immense travel burdens. they and Butler would both bring 2 new to basketball elite schools to our conference, giving it a young vibrant energy to go along with the tradition of the C7. With Xavier Butler and the Zags, the new conference could open up with a top 3 conference RPI rating before they play game 1.

As far as the Big East name is concerned, it is an old tired name that would be stupid to keep. We want something we can call our own. A name posted on a Nova site "The Classic East" is a name i like. ANYTHING BUT "THE BIG EAST" please. We are a new powerful vibrant elite basketball conference, to be stuck with the name of what has become a decimated failed white elephant torn apart by football school greed is DEFINITELY NOT the way to go here.

Sorry VCU is NOT as appealing for tv people as Creighton. VCU's name is geographically limiting, and they're not even the clear top program in their own town of Richmond. Creighton's name and national appeal is limitless, and right away Creighton will have the entire north central REGION tuning in. Virginia Commonwealth is in an over-saturated market that Georgetown owns and DOES NOT want VCU a part of.

PLEASE!!! No more VCU fans with their drive-bys.

Do you want this forum/thread full of information or just posts you WANT to hear?

If I'm not mistaken this thread is titled "Latest rumors on C7"...not the "Reasons Creighton should be in the C7 over everyone else" thread.

Sour grapes man. I'm just posting what I have been told, and that was that VCU is a done deal. So far my sources are 1-1 in conference realignment (the first being VCU's move to the A-10). I don't know a soul from Creighton but what I do know is I've been told they aren't a part of this new league, and the major reason being location...location...location.

Couple of quick other points.

1) VCU is a very appealing TV option. You may or may not recall, but the Rams went on a pretty historic run from First 4 to Final 4 that got them a good little bit of national attention just two seasons ago. Shaka Smart is arguably one of the biggest names in coaching right now, fair or not, and that certainly carries some weight.

2) Creighton's name and national appeal is "limitless"? Come on bro.

3) "Creighton will have the entire north central region tuning in". What makes you so sure of that? Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Kentucky all have a number of their own teams they are pretty obsessed with, so personally, I doubt those states are all chomping at the bit to watch Creighton basketball instead of their schools. After those states you're left with Nebraska and the Dakotas...a total population of just under 3.4 million...which is less than half of the population of the state of Virginia alone. If Creighton gets to claim the entire region, does VCU get to claim the East Coast?

4) I love how someone from Omaha, Nebraska is an expert on what people want in the state of Virginia. VCU is in an "over-saturated market that Georgetown owns does DOES NOT want VCU a part of"...get out of here with that nonsense.

What does the entire North Central Region consist of? Papillon? Seriously.

Your entire appeal nationally is tied to one player. Not even one particular season like VCU. ONE PLAYER. And he will be gone soon. Like probably this year.

Creighton is a nice school academically. You have a good men's soccer program too. But let's be reasonable when discussing your "national appeal." It is a flicker in the night sky.

Furthermore your knowledge of DC is flawed. Georgetown owns downstate Virginia? That's a good one. They draw a flicker south of NoVA. If you used Maryland or UNC I could let it go but geez, Georgetown?

So in short, yes Creighton fans you have a lot to be proud of right now. That is great. I am really happy for you. But it won't last forever.

If Creighton is chosen it will be because they have been a good program and fit the academic profile that the C7 are looking for. If they don't it's probably because of geography. It's that simple.

This.

And for the resentful Southwest Missouri State fan CaseyG who insists on posting here even though SMS is not in the conversation, a good program means they have won 10 or more conference games for something like 16 straight seasons (I think Kansas is the only other team that can make that claim) and never finished worse than 4th in the league in that timeframe.

So yes, McDermott will move on to the NBA next year or the year after as others have done before but a "program" sustains a high level of competitiveness while a poser wins once in a while then participates in the conference play-in round as often as winning.
