Also, the f-ckin league office was definitely aware and watched it happen. WTF? PC allowed cratering UConn back in the league, 49 miles away... totally took things up the A for the good of the conference, and we get f-ckin abused.

I really don't think your first paragraph is true. Georgetown isn't a job that just any coach would want right now. The pool is more limited, considering the current state of the program (even with the transfer portal), and someone like Cooley who has plateaued would be among limited targets. Also, Georgetown seems to still be in love with anyone connected with John Thompson, and it sounds like Cooley had some connections.

As for the rest, by what rule is the Big East supposed to stop this or come down hard on Georgetown? Serious question.

Curious how the Friars fans feel about this.

Part of me feels like things were getting a bit stagnant at PC with Cooley.

So maybe it’s the right time.

But also going to a school in your conference is just awkward and weird and if he has success it’s always gonna be a slap in the face to providence fans.

I guess the way I’d feel about this as a fan would depend on who providence gets as their coach now

It's just so incredibly rare for a coach to bolt for another program within a conference. Only a handful of examples I could find in football and basketball. Regardless, it appears that this process *should* be wrapped up in the next 24-48 hours.

Every AD in the back of their mind has a list of candidates in event an opening comes. So while Providence fans may feel jilted or hurt by Cooley going to Georgetown, Steve Napolillo should have a list of names ready to go.

The first calls that should have already taken place are to Pitino and Donovan. Both are long shots but both need to be asked. Pitino looks like NY or nothing at this point. Donovan might be looking to get out, but he's not taking a pay cut at this point either. He's making $6 million with the Bulls; Providence won't be able to pay that annually.

The next tier names could be Jeff Battle (if he doesn't join Cooley at Georgetown), Ryan Gomes (Overtime Elite), Tobin Anderson (Farleigh Dickinson), Ritchie McKay (Liberty), Richard Pitino (New Mexico), John Becker (Vermont) and Kim English (George Mason).

Someone like Richard would be interesting, although I'm not sure he and his Dad would want to coach against each other (I recall the Hurleys were reported as not wanting to coach against each other in conference a few years ago).

I would think someone like Battle would be early favorite, especially to keep current players from bolting.

Somewhere in this thread, i mentioned a fine for Georgetown, and a several game suspension for Cooley. It's a slap on the wrist, but puts the BE leadership on the side of the school that got it's season sabotaged.

A BE school that was 9-2 and 20 and whatever the f-ck, ranked #18 in the nation, late February, has some f-ckin dreg from their own conference cut them at the knees. This is ridiculous, and has never been done in our conference because we'll all worked together for 10 years and 44 years towards our common goals of championships and Final Fours.

I mean, if we're changing iur unwritten rules, then ok, fine, turn the BE into a f-ckin free for all slimefest... let the Big-12 poach 3 of our schools... Fuckin add VCU to troll Georgetown The new no-rules Big East.

I didn't ask what your punishment would be. I asked *by what rule* you would legitimately be able to deliver that punishment.

Coaches would be interested in making that much money. But, it's not all about money up front. Coaches are also even more interested in being successful so that they can have good careers and they can make that money for longer. That much money isn't great relative to other jobs if you don't last long because you're in a tough situation, especially because coaches that fail at the high-major level tend to fall back to far less lucrative low-major or mid-major jobs or even to assistant positions. That's both a big drop in earning potential and a big hit to one's career. I think Cooley will have a little more leash as someone connected to Thompson (because Georgetown is weird), plus like many other coaches, he might be getting out ahead of pressure in Providence as he continues to underwhelm.

$6 million is not the second highest paid coach in the country and there are no rules that prohibit a coach or player from switching schools in conference. Be mad at Cooley all you want but complaining that the conference should "do something" about this is incredibly stupid.
