It's official. The buyout was lowered to 4.8 million.

Oh good, more Willard speculation.

I've seen Willard, Cooley, Smart, and Hurley all mentioned by sportswriters/Louisville fans. A lot of wishful thinking.

And Willard's probably the most realistic - but perhaps least exciting of that group.

-Louisville's not going to bully UConn financially, so they'll get a tough battle financially for Hurley
-How recently Smart came to Marquette obviously doens't disqualify him from moving, but it certainly makes it a lot less likely
-Cooley already turned down Michigan. Louisville's a great job, but not significantly better than Michigan.

I also don't see them going for Willard though. They could probably get him if they wanted him, but I really can't see Louisville going back to the Rick Pitino tree again.

RE: BE coaches to fill the vacancy. Would imagine they’d look at Mack’s struggles and conclude that the grass isn’t always greener—even if the $ is.

Secondly, be honest X fans…aside from your feelings of lost loyalty, if given the choice, would you replace Steele with Mack today if you could snap your fingers Thanos-style?

Gumby - - My answer is NO! I used to be upset about a Xavier guy from Cincinnati leaving Xavier. Frankly, notwithstanding UL's basketball history, I very much do not respect their program. Too many instances of bad behavior, including study hall hookers. His meltdown at UL and his tendency to throw others under the bus truly helped me to move on.

Now, if you asked a second question: if I could snap my fingers and bring back Sean Miller Thanos-style, it would be done.

I state that, knowing that it isn't fair to Travis, and understanding that Travis could be our "Jay Wright" if he is able to get it under control and achieve the level of success expected at Xavier - I'm talking F4's and a NC.

No to Chris Mack. Get it together Travis Steele. Standby Sean Miller.

How can you expect something you've never had? Isn't that like expecting a decent base hitter to hit a home run every time? Like if they do it great, do it again we can talk about expecting it but if all they've shown is singles and doubles can you expect triples and home runs?

You can’t be serious. It’s the NCAAT. Everyone knows it comes down to matchups and a little luck. We’ve had three E8’s and a number of S16’s. We’ve had more victories in that tournament without having made it to the F4 than any other program. Besides, if you want to pull history into it, Xavier won the NIT in 1958 when it still mattered.

We have one of the finest on campus facilities in the nation, total support from the schools administration, the fan base, this conference, and the resources to have all of that as our goal.

And you want to take the position that is not a reasonable expectation for Xavier, because we haven’t been there yet? That’s ridiculous.
