I think the issue is confusing the terms national in terms of recognition and national in terms of where they recruit.

Syracuse is a national program because they're a top 20 program and have fans all over the country and draw well and are recognizable.

A school like Fordham for example is a regional school because they're only kind relevant in the area around the school and no where else.

I don't think anyone actually uses the term for a school being a national recruiting power. I don't think that's really a thing anyone thinks about. When you say a team is a national team you mean in terms of presence. And Cuse is a national Presence. Georgetown is a national presence. Seton Hall is a regional Presence.

HH there definitely a difference between the two, but we are talking recruiting on this board, not the best place to go for a good education. You really think the recruiting world doesn't make a distinction between national recruiters and everybody else. How many schools go into NC a get a players that Duke or UNC really want. But they do it every year lol. Like I said show me the top 20 players cuse has recruited from all over. I can show you that for Arizona or Florida.

TheHall you have to account for the number of players an area produces. You say all in the same breath that Duke and UNC owns recruiting yet they also land kids all over the country. Has it occurred to you the northeast has 50M people making it the most densely populated part of the country. The same can't be said for the surrounding area of Duke and Kentucky. If they want to find 13 too players thaey have to mine more area.

That being said lets look at some of the rosters of teams you highlighted:

Duke. - 0 NC players. 8 guys from non ACC areas
Kentucky. - 3 Kentucky players 7 guys from outside the SEC
Arizona - 2 AZ players 4 kids from outside the Pac12
Florida - 8 Florida guys 3 kids outside of SEC

Georgetown 3 DMV kids. 6 guys from out of the old Big East areas
Syracuse - 3 NY kids - 3 guys outside of old big east areas

I did this entirely based on hometown not high school so the numbers are probably even more slanted towards each school having kids within their conference footprint. Simply almost everyone primarily recruits within their conference, some conferences have a larger population of residents, but across the board it's a similar story at top 20 programs.

Good info, but I'm pretty sure many of those on your list aren't top 25 or even top 50 recruits. The schools I mentioned don't always get the recruits, even Kentucky (Delgado w/SHU), my point was they're always seriously considered by top 25 talent regardless of where that recruit is from...ie they always have regional recruiters on the defensive.

Nevertheless, what you are pointing out about population is the "secret sauce" of the BE's success over the past 30 years. The BE made up for being the new & smaller (small private schools mostly) kid on the block as far as conferences in 1979 by locking down a relatively small but highly populated area of the country. It's the innovative model that was the product of the vision, genius & ability to get it done of Dave Gavitt. The premise was that recruits from the NE could stay "home" & still play in a big time conference, which wasn't true before the BE 1.0. That's what cuse is putting on the table and risking making them really need to become a national recruiting program like UNC long-term. Can they do it, of course, will they, I don't think so.

You have to admit, if it was simply about schools in less densely populated areas (Kansas, Arizona etc) "wanting" more top recruits because there aren't enough around locally then why isn't Arizona St. a big time recruiting program or Wake Forest, Miami, Vandy, Iowa, etc. I sure those schools want more, but they aren't national recruiting schools, consistantly, which is why Kentucky, Duke, UNC, etc dominate their conference mates. That's not been the case in the BE for most of its history.
