2023 Recruiting Class - OMG this might be the BEST EVER

Postby Omaha1 » Mon Aug 01, 2022 5:44 pm

Never too early to start planning ahead, right? Let’s talk 2023 Big East commitments.

Creighton received the commitment of local PG Josiah Dotzler today. He is the 2nd youngest of 14 kids and his older brother Josh played for CU during the Dana Altman era. Josiah used to be a ball boy during CU games and has worked his tail off for this offer. He had offers from mostly mid-major schools to this point but CU coaches saw him regularly this summer against their guys and felt like he would be able to compete at the Big East level.
Nebraska by birth, Creighton by choice.

Xavier looking good for #98 Nationally (4*) PG Trey Green.

5'10 and 155lbs. I love short point guards, especially at the college level, they can control any game if they are good enough.

YES!!!! We love those small guards as well. Inverting the offense and posting up a 6'4" 220 lb guard on him is going to suck. :D j/k

247 Composite Class Rankings:

https://247sports.com/Season/2023-Baske ... mRankings/

5. UConn
19. Georgetown
31. St. John's
32. Providence
39. DePaul
40. Marquette
44. Butler
59. Creighton

No class yet (I'm not very concerned about these teams):
Villanova
Xavier
Seton Hall

With 7 teams in that top 44 that'd translate to roughly 7 teams in the Big Dance, which is exactly where the league should aim to be (6-7+ teams each year). Also worth noting the Big East played the transfer game better than any other league this past off-season. Pretty solid overall, and glad St. John's is finally starting to recruit. :)

Trey Green and Josiah Dotzler were teammates on the MoKan Elite team that just won the EYBL Peach Jam.

Right, and it’s not like we brought him in to beat Nova. We know better.

Why would Creighton settle for Josiah Dotzler for a pg? What do the BlueJays see that all of America does not?

SETTLE? Settle??

Well, they've been watching him for years. Jays were cool on him, but liked him. He's been a fan, ballboy, lived on Campus for years..dream school. Nebr. PoY, #1 player. Creighton is in the kid's blood. Mac told him to improve over the Spring and summer and we'll see. Jays have a ton of guards at the moment. Dotzler went to work, improved significantly during the spring. played with MoKan Elite during AAU Spring & Summer. Good player on the EYBL Peach Jam Champs team. Jays offered him after the Peach Jam Championship. Great size and significant upside for Josiah. He'll grow and develop well (4-year player) in Mac's system. It's ALWAYS good to keep a scholie in your pocket for a good-to-great local kid.

Are there better PGs...probably. Jays had 8 offers out on PGs. But Dotzler had a couple of cards up his sleeve. He's a Bellevue West HS PG. Nobody makes better PGs & we've had a few over the years. (Josh Dotzler, Antoine Young- CU, Chucky Hepburn-Wisc)

AND he's a Legacy recruit to boot. His older brother Josh played PG for lil Cr8n - 2005-09. He played 117 games.

Josiah was born a Creighton Bluejay. Now, hear me... There are a couple of guys ahead of him on the roster, so he's not starting day 1. But, he will be in the rotation in 2023-24, so in a couple of years who knows. Great kid.

If it looks like a Jay, walks like a Jay, shrill calls like a Jay...It must be a Dotzler. Jays didn't 'settle' for Josiah - He's always been a Creighton Bluejay - He'll do us proud.
