Oh, some great bits in here.
First, you wonder how an article this late in the game can be so far amiss, then you wonder how a Forbes writer can even believe that one single-elimination tournament is going to play such a monumental role in any media deal.
Oh, some great bits in here.
Or will they settle for something like the $5 million a year – that’s total – the basketball-centric Atlantic 10 Conference takes in from ESPN, CBS and NBC? The first TV deal, which the upcoming tournament could affect mightily, is what will set the tone.
To get a major TV deal, “Georgetown, Villanova or Marquette has to go to the Final Four,” says Ken Homa, a marketing professor at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business and a season ticket holder. Is that a stretch? Perhaps, but a loss by the second-seeded Hoyas, fresh off a 25-6 season, to No. 15 seed Florida-Gulf Coast would do a lot to short circuit things.
