The future of Depaul Basketball

I'm curious which direction Depaul's basketball program is going to trend...They are 9-3 and although none of their 3 losses are "good" losses none are horrible, Wichita State is a pretty good team and Gardner Webb and W. Kentucky aren't joke teams either. They are in a great market, Oliver Purnell is a good coach who previously sustained sucess at Clemson and they will have two solid players returning next year(presumeably) as seniors. So they will return Cleveland Melvin 6'8" who is averaging 18 & 8, Brandon Young who is averaging 16, 3 & 5 along with guys like Jamee Crockett, Moses Morgan and the big guy 6'10" Derell Robertson...ALL will be upper classmen. Also a trio of decent recruits. Will they be a force next year in the BE? Um....no, but they could leave while they are trending up which would be huge imo, if they could win 6...maybe even go 7-11 in conference games next year and continue to build I think they could have a nice future ahead of them.

Why DePaul has sucked for 20+ years has to be one of the great mysteries of college basketball.

For some reason, they have a tough time getting the inner city Chicago kids to sign on.

I have to think that Purnell being an African American might help some with this.

You would think, but so far, it hasn't made much of a difference.

Let's send DuhPaul to the Horizon League and give the Chicago C-7 franchise to Loyola. I am confident that Porter Moser and Loyola will exceed DuhPaul's Big East record. DuhPaul the plan has to include more than simply cashing TV and NCAA unit checks.

Ray Meyer would be so disappointed in what the Blue Demons have become.

Did DePaul ever decide if they were going to move to the United Center? I remember the story of the great lease they were offered which was really just a ploy to prevent a new building being constructed that would compete with United, but it was a great deal nonetheless. I never heard what the school was going to do.

That might be a really empty United Center, might cost more to turn on the lights.
