Big Ten expansion rumors swirling again

Lots of Twitter chatter that UNC and either Virginia or Georgia Tech (or maybe both) are headed to the Big Ten. When and if that happens the ACC completely comes apart with any schools that are left there scurrying for homes in the SEC and Big 12. Some schools aren't going to find a chair when the music stops. Our dear friends from Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Boston College for example. When all the dominoes are done falling things are going to look a lot different. Could the falling dominoes affect what goes on with the C7? Naive to think they couldn't.

I don't see it really,

North Carolina is a power of the ACC that and they might have a clause which forces them to bring NC state along ... see Kansas Kstate problem. That and North Carolina really brings nothing to the table to the BIG market wise.

Georgia Tech? Now interesting gives you Atlanta but that state is all Georgia... and i just don't see what GT brings to the table... If i had two to choose it would be VT and Florida State

Been told by a coworker who follows The OSU closely, they want UNC for two reasons, the Big 10's contiguous state clause, and UNC's research grants. The expansion of the Big 10 has much more to do with research grants than football. He said their after a 20 team conference that controls 70% of research dollars.

20 teams just sounds tough ... but with those big football conferences its bigger the better i'm still trying to digest the Rutgers and Maryland to the big 10. So if there is a contiguous state clause that would rule out GT. Lets just get this C7+ thing done and ban realignment is that too much to ask

Rules out GT until they get UNC.

I live in a Big Ten state (Indiana) and I'm not hearing any chatter about further expansion other than on blogs and message boards. We all know how reliable those are with "sources." Then again, I'm not hearing anything about the nBE7+ either.

Wouldn't a contiguous state clause rule out UNC until they get Virginia? So if UNC is the key to this whole thing and already has an offer and they want Georgia Tech too either there is no contiguous clause or they're really going big and taking all 3.

Rumors are thinking ultimately 3 to force ND into the B1G or 4 ACC as an alternative.

No. Tech has somewhat of a pocket around parts of Midtown, Buckhead, and downtown, where they're probably at least as popular as UGA, but outside that area UGA is easily more popular. You also have to recognize the metro has grown so quickly in the last 20 years that I wonder if it is a third people from outside Georgia. You get a recruiting base and tv sales, but they'd still be second fiddle to the SEC in Atlanta.

...and I have a Tech perspective.

Sorry, was already including Virginia, since there seems to be a foregone conclusion for inclusion.

Over/under on how long Georgetown is in this new conference before the conference realignment dominos join them back up with their friends already headed to the ACC?

Serious question.
