The Public vs. Private variable is a factor. A private school follows its own standards, the NCAA's & the conference's. A public school has a 4th set of rules from its supporting state.
Seton Hall is the 1st or 2nd largest diocesan school in the US. Explanation? There is no priestly order in charge, the Archbishop is the final authority. As such, its Catholic Mission takes priority. This results in a number of students being given an opportunity & the support system that they may not otherwise recieve. Therefore the admissions numbers will never top the charts. Depending on your viewpoint, this may be an acceptable trade-off. It's not as if they have an open enrollment policy.

VCU has certainly performed well in the tourney in the last 5-10 years, but let's not forget that the numbers you're posting are due in part to the easier conference that VCU has been in from 1977-2012.

Playing in a weaker conference gets you to the tournament. It also gets you a high seed and a match up you should lose. It doesn't get you past the 1st round though. VCU has been past the 1st round more in the last 30 years than SLU has in their 97 year history. SLU has been past the 1st round just 5x in 97 years. Their record after getting past the first round? 0-5. VCU's? 4-7.

Fair point. Not arguing that, I was just pointing out how the stats you posted might have been inflated because of conference affiliation.

20-Win Seasons - definitely inflated by weaker conference

Sub .500 Seasons - definitely inflated by weaker conference

NCAA Appearances - definitely inflated by weaker conference

NCAA Units Earned - indirectly affected by weaker conference (more NCAA appearances give you a better chance to win a tourney game and collect units)

I'm hearing that VCU could bump SLU or Dayton for the last spot.

Hunch or source?

Both brand-name programs plan to begin play within two years in what could be a new 12-team, two-division conference along with five other Big East non-football-playing members — Villanova, Seton Hall, Providence, DePaul and Marquette — and most likely five members of the Atlantic 10 — Xavier, Dayton, Butler, Saint Louis and VCU.

Something tells me he just pulled those names out of thin air. If we go to 12, Creighton will be in there.

Anyone who tells you they have a real source is probably lying.

VCU will not be one of the teams invited. Again, to repeat myself, the schools that are being invited have already been informed.

Do you think it's true that there will be no announcements until after the season?
