Just hire a new coach like lavin and seton hall will take off?

Ummm, we are all still waiting for St. John's to take off under lavin!

But on the point of a coach, the hiring of Willard alone shows the lack of commitment to winning at seton hall.

Congrats to Seton Hall!

To hit the point of this thread, the Big East is in a great place in the basketball landscape. No changes need to be made, and I doubt many are.

It would be so nice to be in a league that sponsors basketball.
Big East Basketball is what it's always been. Great competition nightly.
If the Atlantic 10 didn't suck, why is everyone looking for the exits?
There is a reason why the A-10 left a team in the Central Time Zone...SLU, your move.

CheickDiallo,the consensus top 10 player?
Or angel Delgado, the borderline top 100 player?

Is it is diallo, then great get for seton hall.

If it is Delgado, then we are seeing how small time seton hall is in celebrating an average recruit like he's a top 10 player.

If I had a say, I would get some more of the non-rev sports filled out better. Get up to at least 8 teams in everything we offer; we want to be more than just a basketball conference. Everyone knows the Big Ten, ACC, etc are good in lots of sports, not just the revenue sports, we want our name out there all year round, not just January-April.

I completely disagree with this.

I thought Willard was a very good hire at the time. In fact, he was one of the guys I was interested in when Crean left for Indiana in '08.

Willard's first head coaching job was at Iona, replacing Jeff Ruland. In Ruland's last season, they went 2-28. In Willard's first year, they improved dramatically to 12-20. In his 3rd year, they reached 20 wins. That's a hell of a turnaround. Willard's dad was a long-time successful college head coach, and Kevin worked many years under Pitino (including being his assistant in the NBA with the Celtics). He's got the chops. I've been a bit critical of his tenure at Seton Hall so far, but it was just a year ago that they were a bubble NCAA team and made the NIT. Last year was a disaster, but they did have a lot of injuries that crippled them. This year will be very telling. Adding Freddie Hill, who has an outstanding reputation as a recruiter in the NY/NJ area, is already paying huge dividends.

If Willard doesn't get it straightened out, his replacement is so obvious it isn't even necessary to make a list of candidates -- SHU alum Dan Hurley. After his remarkable turnaround of the Wagner program and what he's already starting to do at Rhode Island, it won't be long before he's at a power program. So, if Willard isn't going to get it done at SHU, he better make it obvious quickly while Hurley is still available!

Consider the source MUBasketball. What friarfan2 knows about basketball, let alone Seton Hall basketball, couldn't fill a mosquito's stomach. I wonder if there is an ignore setting on this site so that I can just avoid his nonsensical ramblings.

Borderline top 100? :?:

Don't you mean borderline top 50?

Regardless of his rating, he's a quality big man, players which are always harder to find. Signing this kid would be a coup for any program. Suggesting that he's an "average recruit" is simply not factual.
