I would suggest that the presidents of whichever are the invited schools sit down together and discuss their own options. If the new schools could work together toward a more equal revenue plan that's one thing. The C7 would be a joke though if it couldn't get XU, BU, SLU, DU, or CU. If all five said no to the plan, enjoy have Duquesne and Richmond as your league mates.

Which is why it would sense XU, BU, UD, CU and SLU to be united on this. It's all five or none of us. Your move C7.

I haven't seen anyone put it this way and I think it would be very smart for the three Jesuit schools at least to be working in concert on this. All or none.

My guess is that it will be only for a few years. New members for the Big Ten and Pac 12 got less money for the first few years. I'd be fine with that because the C7 put the risk in leaving, negotiating and all the startup costs. Now if the new members make less for the whole 12 year contract, that is something I'd be against. Depaul, Providence and Seton Hall should not be making twice as much as the new members in say years 4-12.

Everyone is a new member when you form a new conference. The Big Ten and Pac 12 were established conferences. Much different circumstances at play here.

If it were going to be for a couple years, fine. I don't think that's the case. Plus, the Big 7 are still going to negotiate collecting on exit fees from other schools in the Big East. They should have plenty of money as is.

If any school agrees to let the C7 have twice the money into perpetuity, they deserve what they get.

So add this to the debate:

10 vs 12 teams?
Unequal money distribution temporary or permanent?

I would agree that at first glance this looks bad but I think people are overreacting. Firstly, the BE 7 didn't jump blindly, they talked to all these other schools before leaving the Big East. I'm rather certain revenue distribution would've come up in those talks and the BE 7 never would've jumped if there wasn't the feeling that all these things could be worked out. This league is going to come together, it's just about details. Something like this gets floated out there and you negotiate from that point. Nobody starts a negotiation with their best offer. Everyone involved knows this will get done. Give the new schools more money in exchange for concessions in other areas, like keeping the conference tournament in NYC when the midwestern schools may want it to rotate out there sometimes. Also, some of that extra money the BE schools could be getting could well go to buying the Big East name from the UConn/Cincy group. That would be money well spent in my opinion. Eventually I'm sure the TV money will be doled out equally. This really is not as big a deal as people are making it out to be, it will get worked out, it makes way too much sense for everyone involved for it not to.

I also would note that this is all based on a report from Darren Rovell who is not exactly Mr. Reliability.

Pirate98- I don't disagree but Rovell got his info from a leak somewhere. Maybe I thought it would be more equal based on the religious connection between the schools or something altruistic but I'm very surprised this is out there publicly.

From what I'm hearing, there will only be a two tier system for a couple of years. The C7 is taking all the risk on this. They are negotiating the new TV deal, paying the costs for the start up of the new league, and might also be paying the exit fees of the free agent A-10 schools. Even though I don't think there should be an unequal revenue system, it is similar to what what the ACC and B1G are doing with new members. The first couple of years there is unequal revenue for new members, and then they get a full seat and vote at the table.

According to this, Xavier, butler and Creighton have joined already? When something as simple as that is wrong it makes the entire article a bit questionable.
