Strong Article from RTD on Richmond

Postby SpiderFan » Wed May 01, 2013 7:57 am

Here is a strong article in today's Richmond Times-Dispatch on Richmond and the Big East (I refuse to call it NBE anymore).

http://www.timesdispatch.com/sports/college/richmond/spiders-may-find-new-port-if-big-east-grows/article_9559d215-56e4-543f-a541-7ba6cdf6db98.html

The Richmond paper and our administrators have taken a very quiet reserved approach to the growing speculation and expansion rumors since jump street--the fact that this is out there I think is pretty significant. IMHO

Strong? It doesn't offer the least bit of insight into the situation.

It is wise for Richmond's powers to be quiet on this situation. They do not want to be like Seton Hall and be looking for a new AD.

Thanks for sharing. I tend to think Richmond will be in the Big East very soon.

Either them or Dayton, or Slu, or VCU, or Seattle, or NIU or Davidson, or ND, or Gonzaga, or Pepperdine, or Northeastern, or Little Sisters of the Poor.

Nah. SLU in. Richmond 75%, Dayton 25%.

I'm starting to think that Richmond is team #11 and SLU/Dayton (with SLU being the clear front runner right now) is team #12.

Couple things have been brought up on our board that may be indicators and other things to take from the article:

- Richmond paper--VCU not even mentioned, that was a longshot to begin with them public institution
- For those thinking it doesn't indicate anything--Richmond paper has not been posting willy-nilly about the possibility of Richmond moving so I do think this is telling
- I'm theorizing that the admin (incl president) jumped on the sword this past fall for lacrosse and the drop of mens' track/soccer as way to better position school for potential inclusion in BE
- Others on our board have interestingly theorized that the reason Davidson has still not decided on joining A10 is to see if Richmond (like minded/similar institutions) will be there if they join.

Anyway, just food for thought as we get into the summer and really no college sports going on.
