One man's speculation.

I know Cowbell already said it, but they would more than make up the extra million in the first year. The buy out is absolutely not the reason. The only valid reason I can think of is because the C7 aren't sure which ones to take.

Nothing else makes sense to me.

Another reason that makes sense to me is the C7 want the extra revenue in year one split 9 or 10 ways instead of 12 to make up for any immediate losses they have due to some of their money coming from old BE in a deferred payout. It isn't a ton of money but it may be enough to make a difference to them for one year.

For Dayton and SLU it makes no sense to defer. Get the money while you can before things change and on the surface it appears the difference in revenue would be greater in the Big East than A10 even with full exit fees. With SLU getting all their production from upper classmen the time for them to move and make a splash seems to be now. Dayton would obviously be helped as well by moving if the choice is there but with a young team they could be better positioned to compete with the top of the Big East in two seasons.

They feel bad for the A10? Lessen the blow, give them another year to find some teams? Wouldn't a good (mostly) Catholic conference to that? Probably not, but agree it has nothing to do with the $1M.

Money is the driving force of realignment, you almost have to assume it has something to do with the exit fees. It sounds like schools aren't going to be paying the exit fees, the conference pot is. Whether they do 10+2 or 12, I'm going to assume it's the most financially beneficial for either the 7 or the conference.

I think the league is stopping at 10.

SLU, Dayton, Richmond, VCU fans...good luck.

Actually, besides "Option 1 - My school gets in the New Big East", this would have to be the most desirable alternative for every school. The A-10 with Dayton, St. Louis, Richmond, and VCU is a multi-bid league most years.
