oh God no. Saying this as a Denver fan, can you picture that article title "Big East picks up new member Denver from the Summit League"
As far as Non-revs go Basketball is basically one at Denver having only started playing D1 in 1998. But if we had a hockey league you know who to call.

ITS OFFICIAL we have our first new member Denver as an affiliate for lacrosse:
DENVER – The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team will move to the BIG EAST Conference for immediate competition for the 2014 season, it was announced today. Denver will join members Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John’s and Villanova, as well as Rutgers, who will remain with the league for one season.

“The invitation to join a collective group of universities with such a rich tradition of lacrosse support speaks volumes about the recognition our program has garnered on the national collegiate landscape,” said Vice Chancellor for Athletics and Recreation Peg Bradley-Doppes. “Additionally, the alignment with these institutions certainly fosters our belief in the academic enterprise as they are all considered among the finest in America.”

“In this ever-changing world of college athletic conferences and being only one of two Division I programs out west, the University of Denver lacrosse program must stay at the forefront of opportunities that best serve us, as we move into the future,” said head coach Bill Tierney. “The opportunity to align ourselves with some historically great lacrosse schools in a historically strong conference and to solidify the University of Denver’s annual opportunity to compete for an Automatic Qualifier for the NCAA tournament, has made this an easy move to make.”

“On behalf of the BIG EAST Conference I would like to welcome the University of Denver in the sport of men's lacrosse,” said Georgetown Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed. “Coach Tierney and Director Bradley-Doppes have done an incredible job building Denver lacrosse into a premiere program. The addition of a program fresh off consecutive Final Four appearances clearly makes us one of the strongest lacrosse leagues in the country. The combination of the teams from the BIG EAST with Denver as an affiliate member strengthens our brand in lacrosse.”

The Pioneers are leaving the Eastern College Athletic Conference, which they have been a part of since the 2010 season. During the four years in the ECAC, Denver has secured three Regular Season Titles and one Tournament Championship. The Pioneers have also made the NCAA Tournament four straight seasons, including two trips to Championship Weekend.

“We thank the ECAC, for the opportunity to participate and represent them in the last four NCAA tournaments, for running a great conference tournament the last three years, and for their support,” Tierney said. “We are extremely excited to be joining Georgetown, Villanova, St. John’s, Marquette and Providence in 2014, knowing what a great challenge they will present the young men on our team. We are thankful that the BIG EAST offered us this opportunity and look forward to competing with class and honor for its championship for many years to come.”

Also this seems to confirm that Rutgers will be joining for one year in lacrosse as well. This basically seems to be the first official indication that we will have to compete with the Big Ten in lacrosse after that as why else would Rutgers join for a year.

Looks like Johns Hopkins lacrosse is joining the Big Ten. Was hoping we might get them to join the Big East.

Awesome that it's official. We now have some stability in lacrosse, which really just leaves swimming and diving on the men's side. Too bad about Johns Hopkins, but that was always going to be a long shot. With the breakup of the ECAC lacrosse league there are other schools ripe for the picking. I would love to see the league be around 7-8 members just for the sake of stability. Fairfield, Hobart and Bellarmine are all private universities so they would fit well with the current league. I wouldn't mind seeing 1 or 2 of them added as affiliates. Any combination would make us one of the stronger lacrosse leagues in the country.

It would be ideal to get the rest of our non-revs in order before next year, but the women's sports are a serious issue. We are short in field hockey, lacrosse, and rowing (3 of each, although I'm not sure if Denver adds their women's lacrosse squad to the league which would make that 4). We may wind up having to put those in other leagues temporarily. The men's swimming/diving is really close and I believe if we add SLU, as the common opinion here seems to be we will, that would bring us up to where we need to be. Things are definitely starting to come together.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

If that's accurate then we should be fine for everything except women's rowing and men's swimming/diving for next year. Seems like the presidents are doing a decent job of getting things together.

I know for several years that Creighton's rowing team has competed in the WCC because the MVC did not have rowing. If we have to have some our schools compete as affiliate members elsewhere in sports like rowing and men's swimming/diving, I doubt many will even notice, let alone care. These sports produce ZERO revenue and hemorrhage cash.

Truth be told, the BE would probably be better off "encouraging" schools competing in these sports to replace them with something else that a greater number of BE conference members actually participate in...

This is all about Women's sports.

http://www.csnphilly.com/content/temple ... eld-hockey

"The new Big East Conference has made a couple of additions to their Olympic sports programs, today adding the Temple Owls and Rutgers Scarlet Knights to the conference for both women's lacrosse and field hockey. The move, while not yet made official, is under a verbal agreement and will occur for at least one season.

The field hockey conference already had consisted of Rutgers, Louisville, Georgetown, Connecticut, Providence and Villanova. Old Dominion will also join along with Temple.

In lacrosse, Marquette will join Temple as a newcomer to a group that already contained Connecticut, Rutgers, Providence, Georgetown, Louisville, Cincinnati and Villanova."

Actually your wrong. Men's swimming will have 9 teams and women's crew will have 10. Furthermore its a load of crap to think that the BE would be better encouraging schools competing in sports to replace them off with others. Because lets face it the biggest non-rev cash hemorrhage for any of these schools is baseball, and i doubt any Creighton fan would be willing to sign off on eliminating that sport. Also while i understand your concern (or lack of concern for women's crew) you should understand that rowing as a sport is like bowling, its set up so differently from the other sports conference affiliation almost doesn't matter (see st. Johns fencing).

Anyways i'm sure you meant well with your post but its factually incorrect, fails to understand the structure of NCAA sports and non-rev economics, it also fails to appreciate how title IX affects the decision making process of determining non-rev sports, and while you might not care i personally know that there is at least one self described chlorine head who views this sight.
